About Pat DeLong
Pat (Patti) DeLong is a resident of Palmerton, PA. She was born in 1956, and graduated from Catasauqua High School, Catasauqua, Pa. Selecting the Commercial Art program at Northampton County Community College in Bethlehem, PA , she earned an Associate degree plus extra credit in photography. She lived in Lehigh Township, PA for 24 years where she had three horses. Although her dream was always to have an Appaloosa, she did have an Arabian, Quarter Horse and Tennessee Walker.
She was employed at several businesses, from screen printing to signage, and although the work was in the art field, it wasn't what she wanted to create. She has practiced her craft through the years, from airbrushing motorcycle parts, lettering signs and vehicles to painting large wall murals.
Horses have always been her passion, and since the early 2000's, she's been working on several series. The one she's most passionate about is 'The NAME of the Game'. It is the horse's name that is important as that is what determines the background. The horse does not have to be a stakes winner, just the right name to work with. This allows her to honor all horses that provide us with such great entertainment as the Sport of Kings.
She has won several awards, and she has an abundant following on facebook where she enjoys the interactions with her 'fans'. Her art is showcased in many racehorse owner's and trainer's homes and several book publications. Specializing in Equine art (her dogs and cats have also received praise); she does accept commissions, since she really wants to give the client exactly what they want. She can paint on just about any surface, from canvas to wood. With the technology available today, once the art is completed, it is available on numerous items.
Despite having physical disabilities, such as rotator cuff tears and carpal tunnel in both hands, her painting has slowed down a bit, but it has not stopped her. Once paint is in an artist's veins, it cannot be washed out. She continues to create beautiful artwork such as The Legacy continues...honoring Zenyatta, Bernardini and their colt. She has also completed the same type piece honoring Rachel Alexandra, Curlin and their colt, Jess's Dream. Race horses are not her only Equine subject matter, she has finished work involving Police, Draft, and numerous other breeds. A 'Horse is a Horse, of course'!
She is also a published author, since writing has always been a passion second only to painting and horses. Her two books The Life & Times of Billy “THE KID” - the AMAZING life of an ordinary kid and THE AMETHYST CRYSTAL are available @ www.patdelong-art.com
